Are thourobreds good horses for a teen getting back in the saddle?

Hi, I have a 9yr old thoroughbred off the track race horse. I just started riding again and i'm still a little nervous. When he was on the track he won 6 races and then he hurt his tendon and could not race anymore it has been about a year and a month since the incident happened and i would like some of yalls opinions.

TBs aren't all total nuts. I learned to ride on a TB (bred the race but never trained) and she was a good lesson horse. I wouldn't rule out a TB as a confidence giver just because of their breed but...

Racehorses *are* total nuts. I've worked with fresh off the track racehorses (under my trainer who brought them) and once they settle in (and had their diet changed) they calm down and were very trainable, but they did need a lot of training and weren't docile.

Since the horse has been off the track now for a year I'm guessing he's calmed down and adjusted already, but however sweet he is or old or how many races he has won he is *not* a broken riding horse. He knows how to race and carry a jockey, not how to carry a rider.

So, can an unbroken high-spirited horse who likes to run be a confidence-giver?

But congrats on him anyway. I loved working with the ex-racers. There is lots of ground work you can do with him, but I think you should find another rider for him or he'll shatter your confidence.
