US Citizenship for joining Navy SEALs?
I was born in Colombia, came to the US when I was 2, and now I am a permanent resident. I think I'll get citizenship in a few years. I want to be a Navy SEAL but I heard that you cant have dual citizenship for secret clearance. Does that mean I wont be able to join because I cant have secret clearance, or not all SEALs require secret clearance? (I dont really know what it means) Basically, do you have to be a natural born US citizen to join the SEALs?
It requires US citizenship as far as I know. But trust me, there are more important things to becoming a Navy SEAL. Clearance is secret when you start, but SEALs need top secret clearance.
After you get your citizenship, go to a recruiter, tell him or her that you want the SEAL Challenge Contract.You'll get a regular job first, and then you will workout with the Special Operations/SEAL Motivator and you'll take the SEAL PST:
- 500-yard (457 m) swim using breast or side stroke in under 12:30
- At least 42 push-ups in 2 minutes
- At least 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
- At least 6 pull-ups from a dead hang (no time limit)
- Run 1.5 miles (2.4 km) in boots and trousers 11:30
No, you don't have to be a natural born US citizen. But you have to be a US citizen...
