how do i clean neoprene Splint Boots?
i have Classic Equine legacy splint boots for my horse. how do i clean them thoroughly without them mildewing or losing their shape?
and when i let them dry do i leave them wrapped up?
This is going to sound silly but I take all of my tack to the manual car wash. If you use the power soaker and hang your gear from the mat hangers, it works wonders, and you don't have to expose your tack to harsh chemicals that might fade the color or eat away at the material. It also hasn't made any of my boots lose their shape. I do this with my splint boots, nylon halters, Saddle Pads, bits, girths and nylon headstalls or breast collars. I wouldn't recommend it for leather gear though, it might damage the leather's finish. The car wash brightens tack up instantly, its really amazing. lol
And, just like Kowds said, you can also put them in a washing machine, but if you have a machine with an agitator in the middle it might damage the machine or the tack, and you wouldn't want to put it in your home machine because it would get the machine dirty and muddy.
As for the drying, I always lay my boots out in the sun (without wrapping them back up), if its warm and dry outside. Actually, we usually just lay them flat on the hood of the truck or car until they are dry. If the weather is wet outside, we lay them in the floor of the kitchen and point a fan towards them for a couple hours.
