gel pad???????????????
my trainer told me that i need to get a gel pad for under my saddle. Does it matter if i get one kind or another? Like, currently i am borrowing one of the barn's, which lets say is brand A. Do i need to get brand A or would it matter if i got brand B?
Yes, it does matter what you get. Meaning, you can go out and buy the cheapest one available and have it break down and need to be replaced in a couple months (depending on how much you use it), or invest some money in a high quality gel pad and have it last for a couple years.
Now, do you need to get the same exact gel pad that your barn is using, well that depends. If your trainer specifically stated that it needs to be the same exact pad then you really should get the same pad. Some horses are very sensitive and can tell the difference between the different pads. Sometimes, the pad is more for the comfort of the horse then a necessity. For example, gel pads are designed to disperse pressure over the horses back then to have pressure points. A horse carrying a novice rider would probably be more comfortable with a gel pad to disperse the pressure of a novice rider moving around or hitting the horses back while learning how to control their body.
Just make sure that you check your gel pad before and/or after each use. Eventually the gel does break down or thins out where it takes the most pressure.
A personal favorite therapeutic pad of mine is a t-foam pad. Its not a get pad, but is very similar and I prefer it over a gel pad. It is a little more expensive then a gel pad, but well worth the investment.

Mary's also has this identical pad I just could not find the picture for it. I believe it is also a little less expensive then Dovers too.
