How is an unsportsmanlike penalty worse than holding, and as bad as horse-collar and facemask tackles?
I mean really? No one is gonna get physically hurt and your team is not going to benefit from "being unsportsmanlike". Yet somehow, some way a facemask which obviously risks damage to the neck, and I know several players have broken several legs of WRs that were horsecollar tackled. It's also considered worse than holding which also makes 0 sense as holding is used to prevent what otherwise would be easy sacks, and long runs.
When I say unsportsmanlike I don't mean fighting I mean more like the excessive celebration. Like you get 15 yards for using the ball as a prop, or going to your knees. There is no way that's just as bad as risking a players safety
Unsportsmanlike is something that you can help. You can't always help grabbing a facemask or horsecollar tackling or holding. Although I think that most excessive celebration calls are total crap, the players don't HAVE to do it, which is why it's a 15-yarder.
