Question about buying a SPEED Jump rope?

Hi, I need a new jump rope, I used an everlast Leather One before, and I want a speed one. I was looking at the title speed boa rope and the everlast deluxe speed rope.
I was wondering, do the ball bearings actually slow down the rope? What exactly are they for?
I want a real nice durable, fast jump rope.

The best ropes are the cheapest and simplest ones. If you're looking for a speed ropes some characteristics you should be looking for are: thin pvc cord (less than 0.25" in thickness) and slim handles.

Ball bearings DO NOT help for speed. They simply minimize tangling when doing cross and side swing movements.

If you're willing to spend some money, your best bet is the Buddy Lee Aero Speed. It's a bit expensive compared to the other jump ropes on the market, but it's worth every cent. They last longer than most jump ropes because the cord never comes into contact with the handles (only w/ the swivel bearing), and that's where most jump ropes snap is where the cord touches the handles.

With the swivel bearing you reduce tangling so tricks are done with more ease, without having to compromise speed.

Those are insanely fast jump ropes, but it's hard to do tricks on them as they're so stiff.. A bit over priced for such a simply design. The cord is metal with a plastic coating, very thin, but VERY fast. They thin out quick though where it touhes the ground. But you can go save the handles then head to HOME DEPOT and purchase a cord there because they're exactly the same. Save yourself some $$$ that way.

Also the Valeo Neon Jump rope is good too for $5. Price to performance ratio---they're the best.
