horse has fungus on girth area?
my horse has fungus on his girth. has for a few months. he had it on other places. finally went away. used vet stuff and listerine. but the girth came back. we wash everyday, bleach everything, etc. any tips? vet thought we shud get a Leather Girth since we have a neoprene one.

we are disinfecting the girth with bleach everytime we ride. and its fungus for sure. in his armpit area and lower girth area. we have the shampoo our vet gave us. then wipe him all down. he is outside in the warm air. then we spray the medicated stuff on the listerine which helped a ton on the other fungus.
Are you disinfecting the girth and all grooming tools? You could use diluted bleach on the girth.
Fungus needs moisture and warmth to grow. A leather or rope girth would let the area breathe, whereas the neoprene holds the moisture and can build heat. If you are already disinfecting everything every day, I'd take the vet's suggestion and get rid of the plastic.
