what do you call a horse that is half thoroughbred and half quarter horse?
She is 3 years old and is half thoroughbred and half quarter horse. Is there a certain thing that these horses are called. If it was a dog it would be a mutt but I would not call my horse a mutt
There's not really a term for a mixed breed horse like "mutt" for a dog.
However, since she's half TB and half QH, she's probably an appendix quarterhorse. In an effort to allow new blood into their breed, the AQHA allows for some qualified quarter horses to breed with other breeds, mainly thoroughbreds. The resulting horses are termed "appendix quarter horses." To qualify to breed outside the quarter horse breed, an individual quarter horse must gain enough points in quarter horse competition. Likewise, the resulting appendix quarter horse can also earn enough points at quarter horse competition, thereby allowing them to breed outside the quarter horse breed. And so on and so forth. The result is that you can have a horse that is vastly thoroughbred, but it's termed a quarter horse.
Assuming that the quarter horse half of your horse's pedigree was a properly qualified horse, your horse is an appendix quarter horse.
