Saddle Cantle
I want to measure my Western Saddle for gullet size and cantle heighth.?
I heard on the gullet it is from concho to concho. Then on here someone said it is very difficult to measure gullet size and to have a professional do it. Also on the cantle is it from the saddle to the top of the cantle? Thanks for your help.
It's hard to explain in writing, but I'll try....
It is 'kinda' from concho to concho BUT on the underside of the saddle.
Under - the concho's
Find the saddle fork. Measure down the inside of the saddle fork.
Measure across the front of the fork, inside to inside.
There should be two to four fingers-width of room between the horse's withers and the gullet. Make sure there is enough clearance over the withers. Gullets that are too short cause the saddle to rub the withers. If the gullet is too wide, the saddle will sit too low and rub the horse's withers.
