Is it possible to get an OTTB's papers in this situation?
I am looking at buying an OTTB for breeding and showing. The current owner does not have her registration papers because the lady she bought her from "hoarded" them (her words). So is there any way for me to get her papers or am I out of luck? I know her JC tattoo number if that helps. I want to breed her this year for a dressage prospect to train and want the foal to be registered Friesian Sport Horse. Thanks!
You would have to first order a DUPLICATE of her papers from JC. (This MAY even have to be done by the person named on the papers.) That costs $150. Next, youd have to trace back to the original owner the one on the papers, she then has to transfer the horse's papers to the woman YOU got her from.. that costs $50. The lady you got her from must sign the change of ownership to you, another $50. At this point, JC may require you to Re-type your horse since several owner changes will look fishy to them so thats another $80.
Then you'll have her papers.
